About the position

Council is looking for a talented Coordinator Climate and Sustainability within the Sustainable Assets Department to lead Council’s climate emergency response, and proactively drive the development and implementation of climate action and sustainability priorities across the organisation and in partnership with the community.

The main responsibilities will be to:

  • Coordinate the development, implementation, monitoring and review of policies, strategies/plans and projects to achieve Council’s strategic climate change and sustainability objectives and priorities;
  • Lead, motivate and coach a team of sustainability professionals to deliver Council’s climate change and sustainability commitments;
  • Provide strategic and specialist advice to Council on a range of complex climate change and sustainability risks, issues, opportunities, trends and best practice; and
  • Engage and partner with key stakeholders and the wider community to enhance and accelerate collaborative action on climate change.

This is a temporary full time position until 2 February 2024.

About you

As the successful applicant, you will have:

  • A tertiary qualification in environmental science, environmental engineering or other closely related discipline;
  • Extensive professional experience in leading the research, development, implementation, monitoring and reporting on climate change and sustainability policies, strategies, plans and projects;
  • Extensive knowledge of the current policies, strategies, legislation, issues, opportunities and trends in climate change and sustainability as they relate to local government;
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, motivate and support a professional and highly motivated team in a mid-sized organisation;
  • Highly developed interpersonal, communication, negotiation and influencing skills;
  • Highly developed analytical, research and problem solving skills; and
  • Excellent project management and budgeting skills.

This position is a Band 8 currently remunerated between $120,755 to $135,203 per annum, plus superannuation. Salary level will be based on the experience level of the candidate. Overtime will also be paid as required.
