About the position
Council’s Operations Department is looking for a Section Leader Tree Maintenance who will be responsible for delivering high quality tree maintenance programs including delivering the road management plan, electrical line clearance management plan and tree planting programs.
This position will provide an inspiring opportunity to collaborate with our team of Parks and Vegetation professionals. Your experience will contribute by planning and delivering high quality street and park tree maintenance programs throughout the municipality, with an in-house team of arborists and a panel of contractors.
The main responsibilities will include:
- To plan, lead and manage the Tree Maintenance Section of the Operations Department.
- To provide operational input and technical arboricultural advice for the development of arborist reports, strategies, policies, procedures, standards and design of Council’s Tree management programs.
- Oversee and deliver Tree Maintenance Programs for Council's legislative Electrical Line Clearance and Road Management responsibilities.
About you
- Extensive experience in tree management, leading a team of Arborists and tree contractors.
- Ability to lead arboricultural field operations including undertaking tree hazard assessments, pruning, branch and tree removal, stump removal, tree habitat management and working at heights.
- Exceptional customer service skills and ability to respectfully negotiate.
- Diploma, Degree or equivalent tertiary qualification in Arboriculture.
- Extensive understanding and experience in Australian tree protection and pruning standards (AS4373 & AS4970).
- Substantial experience writing reports of a technical nature.
- Demonstrated financial management experience.
- Current Victorian Drivers Licence.

This position is a Band 7A currently remunerated at $111,878.12 per annum, plus superannuation. Overtime will also be paid as required.
