About the position

Council’s Parks Horticulture Team is looking for a Parks Maintenance Officer who will be responsible for maintaining and enhancing parks, recreational reserves, conservation areas and high profile horticulture sites through the application of horticultural and lawn maintenance skills and the utilisation of specialist plant and equipment.

The main responsibilities will include: 

  • Maintain turf, garden beds and landscaped areas through mowing, planting, pruning, weed control and vegetation management;
  • Operate and maintain a range of horticultural and grounds maintenance equipment, including ride-on mowers, tractors, brushcutters, hedge trimmers and chainsaws;
  • Undertake general park and reserve maintenance, including litter and graffiti removal, minor repairs and upkeep of recreational spaces; and
  • Ensure reserves, playground surrounds, pathways and public open spaces are safe, clean and well presented.

This is a permanent full-time role working 38 hours per week under a 9-day fortnight arrangement, providing one rostered day off (RDO) each fortnight in accordance with the agreed roster.

About you
As the successful candidate you will have:

  • Certificate III in Horticulture or demonstrated experience in parks, gardens, turf or open space maintenance;
  • Sound knowledge of horticultural practices, including mowing, pruning, planting and weed control, with experience using horticultural tools and machinery;
  • Commitment to workplace health and safety, with the ability to work safely, follow instructions and contribute effectively within a team environment;
  • Reliable and proactive approach, with strong communication skills, a willingness to learn and pride in delivering high-quality work; and
  • Current Victorian Driver Licence.

This position is a Band 3A currently remunerated at $ 69,665.28 per annum, plus superannuation. Overtime will also be paid as required.
