About the position

Council’s Payroll Department, is looking for a Payroll Officer.

The main responsibilities will include: 

  • Provide advice and information to Managers and employees on payroll issues, including information on conditions of employment.
  • Develop strong and positive relationships with both internal and external customers.
  • Prepare accounting journals, bank transfers and the transmission of EFT of Payroll Payments and tax payments within the appropriate timelines.
  • Undertake the preparation and cost allocation of salaries and wages time sheets, including processing reports for the reconciliation of payroll to the General Ledge
  • Reconcile payroll deductions for PAYG, Superannuation and various other organisations, as required
  • Provide data input associated with payroll and Human Resources Systems, including the production of salary advice forms and reports as required


This is a full time role.

About you

  • A strong knowledge and understanding of and experience in contemporary Payroll functions and knowledge of computer based payroll systems
  • An understanding of relevant industrial agreements and legislation
  • Ability to provide sound advice to employees and managers.
  • Relevant experience working within a payroll environment
  • Relevant experience interpreting and applying Enterprise Agreements
  • Relevant experience applying taxation and superannuation legislation
  • Relevant experience working with HRIS and specifically payroll systems

 

The following qualifications and/or experience are desirable for the position:

 

  • Local Government experience
  • Experience with Chris21

This position is a Band 4 currently remunerated at $70,945.56 per annum, plus superannuation. Overtime will also be paid as required.
